From the Outback to May 2027: Our Next TwoUp Motorcycle Adventure
It has been a month since we rolled back into the driveway after our WA Outback TwoUp adventure, but the trip is still very much underway.
The first three episodes, covering our first five days on the road, are now out on YouTube. While we are back at work and working our way through the rest of the footage, the trip has also given us plenty to think about as we continue preparing for a much bigger adventure in 2027.
This trip was about more than riding through the WA Outback. It was also about learning.
After two weeks and nearly 4,000 km through some of WA's most remote country, we came home with a much better understanding of what works for us, what doesn't, and what we want to change before we head away for much longer.
Some of those changes are already taking shape. Others will become part of the planning over the coming months.
And we're not going to give everything away just yet.
The WA Outback adventure
The trip took us from Harvey through the wheatbelt and into the Outback, eventually reaching places including Sandstone, Mount Magnet, Meekatharra and Mount Augustus before turning east towards the Goldfields and then home.

There were historic towns, remote roads, rivers, spectacular landscapes and plenty of kilometres of dirt.
There was also weather. Quite a bit of it.

Our plans changed along the way, routes had to be adjusted and sometimes the best decision was simply to stop, regroup and continue the following day.
That is part of travelling in the way we do.
The route is important, but being able to adapt to what is happening around us is just as important.
And then there is the bike
Two weeks away gives you a very different perspective on your setup compared with a weekend ride.
Living from the bike day after day shows you what you actually use, what you don't, what is difficult to access and what could be done differently.
With two people and everything we need travelling on one bike, those lessons matter.
We came home knowing that some things will stay exactly as they are. Other things will change.
And one of the biggest changes will be the way we carry everything. We'll have more to say about that as we get closer to departure.
The next TwoUp Motorcycle adventure is a lot bigger
The WA trip has been a useful step on the road to May 2027.
We're now back at work, but the planning has started to ramp up.
There is a lot to organise before we point the bike towards the next chapter — and this time we're not talking about a couple of weeks away.
We're preparing for an extended journey that will take us a long way from home.
The WA trip has given us another piece of the puzzle.
NZ comes first
Before May arrives, there is another TwoUp motorcycle adventure on the calendar. Our NZ trip is booked, and we're looking forward to getting back on our KTM, something we already know well and have plenty of experience travelling on. NZ isn't about learning how to travel together. We've already got that part worked out. It's another opportunity to ride, explore and enjoy being on the road — while the bigger preparations continue in the background.
The countdown to May
Over the next few months, we'll start sharing more of what goes into preparing for an adventure of this size. Some of it will be practical. Some of it will be about the places we plan to visit. And some of it will probably raise more questions than it answers.
We've still got a lot to work out, and there are a few things we're keeping under wraps until the time is right.
For now, we get to keep taking every
opportunity for local rides, the WA Outback series continues on YouTube, and the countdown to May 2027 is underway.
